from you.

I'm a new patient - what should I expect on my first visit?

We’re so excited to welcome you as a new patient! When you arrive, our friendly front desk team will greet you and help you get settled in. They’ll make sure any necessary paperwork is completed and confirm your medical history before your appointment begins.

We're here to make your visit as smooth and comfortable as possible - from the moment you walk through our doors. If you have any questions, just ask!

To help us serve you better, please bring a piece of photo ID and your insurance information (if applicable). If you have secondary insurance, don’t forget to bring those details too.

For your first appointment, we typically recommend a Comprehensive Oral Exam (COE) and diagnostic x-rays. This one-hour visit allows one of our dentists to thoroughly assess the health of your teeth, gums and jawline, and sets the foundation from which dental plans, assessments and recommendations will be made.

You can expect to receive personalized recommendations, including how often you should come in for cleanings, and we’ll discuss any treatments that may benefit your oral health. We believe in clear communication, so your dentist will take the time to walk you through any findings and answer your questions, including why they are recommending certain treatments. Feel free to ask any questions you may have! At the end of your appointment, you can schedule any follow up treatments or routing cleanings at the front desk.

What if I already had a comprehensive exam done recently at my previous dentist?
No problem at all! However, since we haven’t seen you before and don’t have a record of your dental history, we’ll need to perform an initial or specific exam to determine if any treatment is required. We also are very proud of the way we perform our comprehensive oral exams, and we believe in the importance of having an updated, standardized record of your oral health, especially if it has been more than six months before your previous check-up.

If you have dental insurance, we recommend contacting your provider in advance to confirm whether another new patient exam will be covered before your appointment.

What if I only need to look at a specific tooth?
If you’re experiencing a specific concern, like a sore spot, broken tooth, or localized pain, you can book a specific examination with one of our dentists. As the name suggests, this exam focuses solely on the area or tooth you’re worried about.

Depending on the issue, the dentist may take an x-ray to assess the health of the tooth below the gum line and determine the best course of action.

Does my new patient exam include a cleaning?
Not necessarily!
A new patient exam is a one-hour comprehensive check-up which includes a thorough assessment of the health of your teeth, gums, and jawline, and includes oral x-rays. Unless you've specifically booked a back-to-back, 2-hour appointment for both a new patient exam and a cleaning, your exam will not include a hygiene visit.

We want to ensure your appointment meets your expectations, so if you’re unsure what your visit will include, please don’t hesitate to ask when booking, we’re happy to clarify everything in advance.

Can I bring my x-rays taken at my previous dental clinic?
Yes, you're welcome to transfer your previous x-rays to us for your first exam. However, please note that x-rays older than 9 months may no longer reflect the current condition of your teeth and bone structure, as these can change over time.

To ensure the most accurate diagnosis, the dentist may recommend taking updated x-rays during your visit.

How do dental cleanings work?

A standard dental cleaning takes about one hour and typically includes scaling, polishing, and fluoride treatment.

If you haven’t had a cleaning in a while or don’t visit the dentist regularly, you may need multiple visits to thoroughly remove buildup and ensure your teeth are properly cleaned.

For returning patients, a cleaning may also include a routine check-up or x-rays, depending on your care schedule. If you're a new patient, your cleaning appointment will include hygiene services only - unless you’ve specifically booked a 2-hour, back-to-back appointment that includes a full dental exam.

I have dental insurance - can you bill my insurance company directly?

Yes! The View Dental family is proud to offer direct billing for your convenience. Just let us know before your appointment, and we’ll take care of submitting the claim directly to your insurance provider. This means you only pay the portion not covered by your plan at the end of your visit - no paperwork, no hassle.

Relax and focus on your oral health and our team will handle the rest!

If you have Canadian dental coverage, please let our front desk know before your appointment. If your insurance plan allows assignment of benefits, we can bill your provider directly, you will simply pay any portion not covered by your plan.

If your plan does not allow assignment of benefits, you’ll need to pay the full cost at the time of your visit. We’ll still assist you in submitting your claim so you can be reimbursed directly by your insurer.

We recommend reviewing your dental coverage before your visit to avoid any unexpected charges.

I have secondary dental insurance - what do I need to bring to my appointment?

What is secondary dental insurance?

Secondary insurance is an additional dental plan that can help cover the portion of treatment costs not paid by your primary insurance

For example, if your primary plan covers 80% of a procedure, your secondary plan may cover the remaining 20%, depending on the coverage details.

You may have secondary coverage through a spouse, parent, or a second plan under your own name.

If you have secondary dental insurance, please inform our reception team at the start of your appointment.

To bill your secondary plan successfully, we’ll need the following details:

  • Insurance carrier name

  • Group/plan number

  • ID or subscriber number

  • Full name and date of birth of the secondary policyholder

For questions about your specific coverage, we recommend contacting your insurance provider directly.

Do you offer direct billing to my health spending account or travel insurance?

We’re unable to direct bill to health spending accounts, travel insurance, or insurance providers based outside of Canada.

For these types of plans, we ask that you pay in full on the day of your treatment. We’ll provide you with a detailed receipt so you can submit it to your insurer for reimbursement.

Do you have specialists in the office?

Yes! As part of the View Dental network of seven clinics, we have access to in-house specialists, including periodontists and prosthodontists, who provide care within our network.

If your dentist determines that specialist treatment is needed, they will coordinate a referral to the appropriate provider - either within our group or, when necessary, to a trusted external specialist clinic for more advanced or specific exams.

This collaborative approach ensures your care is always personalized, well-coordinated, and supported by a team you can trust. This benefits you by ensuring that all records kept in one place - making coordination between you, your dentist and specialist smooth and efficient.

How do your prices compare with other dental clinics in the GTA?

We follow the current Ontario Dental Association (ODA) fee guide, which helps ensure our pricing is fair, transparent, and in line with provincial standards. Our goal is to provide high-quality dental care that’s both accessible and reliable

We’re proud to offer direct billing to most dental insurance plans.
Simply provide your insurance details before your appointment, and our team will handle the claim submission for you. You’ll only need to cover any remaining balance not included in your plan - no extra paperwork or hassle.

We also participate in the Canada Dental Care Plan.
This allows us to provide inclusive, affordable dental care to eligible patients, while maintaining the same high standard of service across all our clinics.

We encourage all patients to ask questions about their treatment and pricing. We’re happy to walk you through what to expect so you can make informed decisions.

While cost is a factor, we always remind patients that your oral health is a lifetime investment. A dentist’s expertise, clinical judgment, and use of modern technology play a major role in the quality and safety of your care. Before making a decision, we welcome you to visit our clinic and see what truly sets us apart.

What is your cancellation policy?

We understand that life happens, and we always strive to be as flexible as possible. However, since appointment times are reserved just for you, we kindly ask for at least two (2) business days’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule.

This helps us accommodate other patients in need of care. Missed appointments or late cancellations without sufficient notice may be subject to a $50 fee.

We appreciate your cooperation and support! It helps us continue delivering timely, high-quality care to all of our patients.

Do you offer any discounts?

Yes! We’re pleased to offer a special discount for patients aged 65 and over as a gesture of appreciation for our senior community.

If you have any questions about eligibility or how the discount is applied, feel free to ask our front desk team. We’re happy to help.

How can I pay?

We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Debit, and cash for all in-office payments.

If you’re settling an outstanding balance, you’re welcome to visit the office in person or pay over the phone. Please note that phone payments must be made by credit card only.

If you have any questions about your balance or payment options, our front desk team will be happy to assist you.

Is teeth whitening covered by my insurance?

In most cases, whitening treatments are not covered by dental insurance plans, as they are considered cosmetic procedures. Coverage can vary, so we recommend contacting your insurance provider directly to confirm what your plan includes. Here is some information you may find useful.

What causes tooth discolouration:
Tooth discolouration generally falls into two categories:

Extrinsic discolouration: Surface stains caused by external factors like coffee, tea, red wine, tobacco, or certain foods and beverages.

Intrinsic discolouration: Internal staining caused by factors such as fluorosis, certain antibiotics, trauma, or past dental treatments.

Some types of discolouration can be effectively treated with professional whitening methods, while others may require veneers, bonding, or restorative procedures.

Book an appointment with us to determine the cause of your discolouration and explore the most effective treatment options for your smile.

How often should I visit the dentist?

We recommend visiting your dentist at least twice a year for routine check-ups and cleanings. Depending on your oral health needs, your dentist or dental hygienist may suggest more frequent visits.

These appointments are essential for preventing dental issues and supporting long-term oral health. During your visit, we provide a thorough assessment that may include:

Medical history review: to stay informed of any changes in your overall health

Diagnostic x-rays: to detect issues such as decay, bone loss, or impacted teeth

Gum disease evaluation: assessing the health of your gums and bone support

Examination for tooth decay: checking for cavities using professional instruments

Review of existing restorations:  evaluating the condition of fillings, crowns, and more

Removal of plaque and tartar: to prevent gum disease and maintain oral hygiene

Oral cancer screening: a quick but important check of your lips, tongue, cheeks, throat, and neck for any early signs of oral cancer

Teeth polishing: to remove surface stains and residual buildup

Oral hygiene recommendations:  tailored advice on tools, techniques, and products

Dietary guidance: helping you make choices that support your dental health

Your check-up is about more than just cleaning your teeth - it’s a vital part of maintaining your overall health. We encourage you to schedule regular visits to ensure you receive the best possible care.

Why is dental health important?

Dental care forms the foundation for both long-term oral health and your overall well-being. Research has shown strong links between gum disease and systemic conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, and other inflammatory illnesses.

At View Dental, we take a comprehensive and patient-centred approach to care. This means going beyond check-ups. We are proud to offer a holistic focus based on prevention, education, nutrition, and hygiene to support not just your smile, but your overall health. This is why we will always recommend a Comprehensive Oral exam when you join us as a new patient. Click here to learn more about COE’S.

Our team of dentists and hygienists are trained to listen empathetically to your needs as well as your concerns and we pride ourselves on tailoring each treatment and prevention plan to your individual needs and goals. We also aim to empower you with the information and support needed to make confident, informed decisions, together with your dentist.

Do you treat children at your clinics?

Yes, we do! We love welcoming young patients to our family of clinics and offer gentle, preventative dental care for children starting from their first birthday. Our team is experienced in working with kids and strives to make every visit positive and stress-free, both for the child and the parent. We recommend that children come in within six months of their first tooth appearing, or by their first birthday, whichever comes first.

Starting early helps prevent issues down the road and sets your child up for a lifetime of healthy smiles. Many of our offices have TVs in the exam rooms and we encourage parents to bring a favourite toy or stuffed animal to help little ones feel comfortable!

I'm pregnant - when should I visit the dentist and what should I know?

Congratulations! Pregnancy is a great time to check in on your oral health. We recommend scheduling a dental visit early in your pregnancy - ideally during the second trimester, which is the safest time for routine dental care.

Hormonal changes during pregnancy can increase your risk of gum disease, pregnancy gingivitis, and other oral health issues. If you notice swollen, bleeding gums or sensitivity, don’t wait-get in touch with us, and we can perform a check-up and answer any questions or concerns you may have during this appointment.

We’ll ensure that your cleaning and checkup are safe and tailored to your needs. While routine dental care and emergency treatments are safe during pregnancy, elective procedures like teeth whitening or cosmetic treatments should typically be postponed until after birth. Be sure to let us know if you're pregnant (or trying to conceive) so we can adjust your care accordingly.

What are your hours of operation?

Our clinics are open year-round to accommodate your schedule:

Monday to Friday: 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM
Saturday: 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM
We are closed on Sundays and public holidays.

Need an early morning, evening, or weekend appointment? We've got you covered!

Do your dental offices participate in the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)?

Yes, we do! We are proud to participate in the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) to help make dental care more accessible to eligible patients.

For more information about eligibility and coverage, click here or speak to a member of our team - we’re happy to guide you through the process.

Do you offer treatment for snoring or sleep apnea?

Yes, we do. Book an appointment with one of our dentists, and we’ll be happy to assess your case. If necessary, we can refer you to a trusted specialist for further evaluation and treatment. Your health and quality of sleep are important to us!
